Ahh, music and liquor. It’s what every journalist dreams about. I know I am not the only one. So, when the two come together it can be magic — witness the Hennessy Artistry series. And while I don’t drink the “brown juice,” the line-up for the cognac’s fourth annual edition music event is one I can toast to. Want to know who’s performing? Here’s a hint: the photo above.
This year’s four-city tour will be both curated and headlined by Common (didn’t see that coming, did ya?) with The Roots also appearing as the house band (what will Jimmy do?). Each night will feature a unique blend of performers and collaborators ranging from emerging talent to cameos by well-known special guests.
“Hennessy is the master of blending, and Artistry, is all about artistic blends of music genre, culture and style,” said Comm via a statement. “The lineup is coming together nicely. The Roots and I are really collaborating to create a musical blend of talent that will do Artistry justice. We are planning some surprises as well, it should be quite an experience and I am thrilled to be a part of it.”
Past Hennessy Artistry series have featured Kanye West, LL Cool J and Ne-Yo, the curator of the 2007 series.
The schedule of events is as follows:
September12 – Chicago’s The Shrine
September 19 – Atlanta’s The Velvet Room
October 3 – Houston’s The Corinthian
October 7 – New York’s Halo @ Terminal 5
Additionally, Hennessy Artistry will be sponsoring Comm’s the Common Ground Benefit on September 26th at The Palladium. The concert will feature performances by Comm, The Roots, De La Soul, Ludacris and Nas, among others.
