Casio G-Shock brought out the big guns last night (August 5) when the worlds of fashion, music and general hipsterness collided at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street for G-Shock’s “Shock The World 2009” event. Where else could you find models, rappers and Japanese watch tycoons all dancing to a live performance from Kanye West? And yes, Amber Rose was there too.
Estelle, Bun B, DJ Mick Boogie, Russell Simmons, Adrienne Bailon, Nina Sky, Fabolous, Ryan Leslie, Erykah Badu and actors Alan Cumming (aka Nightcrawler) and Anthony Anderson were among those in attendance for the event that introduced the well-known watch brand’s latest lineup and collabos with Redman, Mister Cartoon (who was also in attendance), skateboarder/photographer Todd Jordan as well as brands like LRG, Globe and In4mation. G-Shock also introduced their new female-inspired G-Shock Mini line and extreme sports brand ambassadors like skateboarder Stevie Williams, surfer Erica Hosseini and surfboarder Matt Hammer.
Despite the cool watches and flowing open bar, you could tell that most people were eagerly anticipating Kanye’s performance. Taking the stage clad in all black and a Jabberwokee-esque mask, ‘Ye impressed the star-studded audience with performances of “Paranoid,” “Robocop,” “Run This Town” and “Stronger,” among others. And in classic Kanye fashion, he did rant during an impromptu freestyle that closed “Pinnochio Story” in which he compared being famous to being obese (“People help you everywhere and it takes you longer to sit down.”)Vodpod videos no longer available.
